Dr. Herbert L. Tyson III
1951-2018
Dr. Herbert Lester Tyson III, 66, of Martinsburg and Alexandria, Va., died Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring, Md.
He was born November 9, 1951 in Norfolk, Va., he was the son of the late Lois Askew Tyson and Herbert L. Tyson, Jr.
He completed his undergraduate degree at Georgetown University and his multidisciplinary Masters and Ph.D at Michigan State University.
He worked as a labor economist until retirement, he was the author of several computer books and a recipient of multiple Microsoft MVP awards. He was also a published singer/songwriter and a nature photographer.
He was a member of Mt. Vernon Unitarian Church.
He is survived by his wife of one and half years, Julie L. Tyson, Martinsburg and Berkeley Springs; one sister, Sharon Blackwell, Alexandria; two stepchildren, Tara Montague, Roanoke, Va. and Dylan Kontra, Shepherdstown and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Katherine Tyson and his first wife, Karen Tyson.
A celebration of life was held Saturday, September 29 at Mt. Vernon Unitarian Church, Alexandria. Rev. Dr. Kate Walker presided. Interment was private.
