1918-2018

Dorothy “Dolly” Florence (Trail) Shaw, age 100, of Hancock, Md., passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Brookdale Senior Living, in Hagerstown, Md.

Born September 12, 1918, in Morgan County, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Pearl (Plotner) Trail; and the widow of Merrill Shaw, who died November 2, 1989.

She was a member of the Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church, in Hancock and a former member of the Hancock Rescue Squad Ladies Auxiliary; and The Red Hat Society.

She was a homemaker but had previously worked for several years at Jacobs Brothers, Inc., formerly in Hancock, and Hepburn Orchards, in Hancock.

Dorothy is survived by two sons, Stanley Shaw and his wife, Marie, of Hancock, and Leroy Shaw, of Needmore, Pa.; one daughter, Delores Finney and her husband, Zane, of Hancock; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; twenty-one great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Everett and Catherine Baker; three brothers, Johnny, Edward, and Junior Trail; and a great-grandson, Joshua Finney.

The family received friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, on Thursday, January 3, 2019, from 6 until 8 p.m., and for one hour prior to the funeral services at the church. The funeral services were held at the Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church, 14253 Exline Road, Hancock, on Friday, January 4, 2019, at 11 a.m. Pastor Philip Unger officiated.
