1932-2018
David Spurgeon Clonch, 85, of Berkeley Springs, died Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at his home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born August 16, 1932 in Gallia County, Ohio, he was the son of the late Abner and Frances Newell Clonch.
He was a member of Hancock Church of the Nazarene.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He graduated from Gallia County public schools in Rutland, Ohio, and then went to Allied School of Technology, Chicago, Ill.
He worked as a mechanical engineer for the Boeing Company in Wichita, Kan., Linkbelt Company, Chicago and the FMC Company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He liked hunting, woodworking, building construction and building model airplanes.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Evelyn Margaret Swope Clonch at home; two sons, Jerrold Clonch, Holtwood, Pa. and Douglas Clonch, Berkeley Springs; one sister, Mildred Downey, Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren, Michael Clonch, Andrew Clonch, Bryce Clonch, Myles Clonch and Callie Clonch; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Phillip Clonch; one grandchild, Brandie Clonch; six sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 31 at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene, Harrisonville, Pa. Pastor Mark Smith officiated. Burial with graveside military honors were in the adjoining church cemetery.
Arrangements were by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Berkeley Springs.
