Christine F. Lawhorne
1937-2019
Christine Frances Lawhorne, age 81, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.
Born April 23, 1937 in Newark, N.J., she was the daughter of the late John Joseph and Christine VanDenHeuval Madine.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Christine graduated from Catholic school in Montgomery County, Md.
She had worked as a secretary/switchboard operator in the telecommunications industry with TRACOR until her retirement in 1991. It was at that time she moved to Berkeley Springs.
She was a loving and attentive mother and truly enjoyed being a homemaker.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking and flower gardening.
She is survived by her sons, Robert Alan Lawhorne and his wife Theresa of Cumberland, Md., and Patrick Neil Lawhorne and his wife Barbara, of Great Cacapon, W.Va.; one sister, Hilda Woodhouse and her husband Woody of Clarksville, Tenn.; one brother, Richard Madine and his wife Sharon of Medicine Park, Okla.; four grandchildren, Matthew Lawhorne of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Vincent Lawhorne, Anthony Lawhorne and Cassander Curry, all of Berkeley Springs; her sister-in-law Helen Gregory of Daleville, Va., and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Dale Lawhorne on May 8, 2011 and one brother, James Madine.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Liberty & S. Washington Streets, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with the Rev. Fr. Leonard A. Smith as celebrant. Interment will be in Greenwood Grove Cemetery, Unger, W.Va.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 634, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
