Charles E. Sullivan

Charles Edward Sullivan, 76, of Hedgesville, W.Va., passed away peacefully surrounded by many family members on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the VAMC in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born in Boston, Mass., he was the son of the late Robert Sullivan and Eleanor Donovan Sullivan.

He was a member and Eucharistic Minister at St. Bernadette Church in Hedgesville, and an honorably discharged Veteran of the United States Air Force serving at McGuire AFB missile site during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Charles was in the first graduating class of Catholic Memorial High School, Boston, Mass. He attended Wentworth Institute, Boston, Mass.

He is retired from GM, Martinsburg plant and volunteered at the Eastern Panhandle Federal Credit Union for 23 years where he served as President of the Supervisory Committee and Vice President of the Board of Directors. After retiring he enjoyed part time work at Quad Graphics for several years.

His love for his dear family and many treasured friends will always be remembered; the warmth of pets held a special place for him.

An avid motorcycle enthusiast, Charles enjoyed many Operation God Bless America runs with his wife and friends from Greencastle, Pa., to the Martinsburg VAMC through their Avenue of Flags. He continued to enjoy golf (with a strong sense of humor) at the Woods Resort in Hedgesville.

Charles (Sully) is survived by his wife, Bernice Sullivan, when this past October, they celebrated half a century of their most cherished married life together.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four devoted children: daughters, Bonnie Stotler and husband Richard, Theresa Armstrong and husband Tim, Julia Lanham and husband Scott, one son, Michael Sullivan and wife, Audrey; five grandchildren, Lauren Lanham, Andrew Stotler, Alex Armstrong and Oliver and Marlowe Sullivan; three sisters, Carolyn Fitzgerald, Eleanor Tucker, and Mary Lou Leppert; plus several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and one great-great-nephew.

In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his son, Edward, a brother, Robert, and brothers-in-law, George Fitzgerald and William Tucker.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a Memorial Mass at St. Bernadette Church, Hedgesville, W.Va., presided by Father George Pucciarelli on Wednesday, January 16 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception there.
