Carson Stotler earns National Honor Society scholarship

Berkeley Springs High School senior Carson Stotler was chosen as a 2021 National Honor Society Scholarship national semifinalist and will receive a $3,200 scholarship toward his college education

Stotler was selected from nearly 10,000 applicants for the award.

National Honor Society Scholarship recipients are chosen based on four criteria- scholarship or academic achievement, service, leadership and character.

One National Honor Society Scholarship winner receives a $25,000 scholarship. Twenty-four national finalists are awarded $5,625 scholarships and 575 national semi-finalists get $3,200 scholarships. A total of 600 scholarships are awarded each year.

For 2021 a total of $2 million in National Honor Society scholarships were distributed. Seven scholarships were awarded to West Virginia seniors, including Stotler.

Stotler said it was an honor to be able to receive the scholarship out of 600 scholarships nationwide and thousands of applicants.

Stotler said he will be attending Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Penn. and will major in statistics. Lehigh University is a top research university.

Stotler plays golf, basketball and baseball at Berkeley Springs High School. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the Math National Honor Society and the Science National Honor Society.

Stotler is also president of the Berkeley Springs High School senior class and a member of the Settlers 4-H Club in Morgan County.
