1934-2021

Betty Mae Gaither, age 86, of Orleans, W.Va., died on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Born May 6, 1934 in Orleans, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Clifton Oscar and Lea Frances Gloyd Light.

She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Orleans, where she was active with the Ladies’ Aid Society.

Betty was a homemaker to her husband, children and family all her life. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning and selling Avon products.

Betty is survived by her children, W. Ray Gaither and his wife Phyllis, Leonard Andrew Gaither and his companion Susan Manley, all of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; two granddaughters, Rebecca Marcelle Remsburg and her husband Randy of Berkeley Springs, Monica Elaine Ross and her companion William Lasley of Jarrettsville, Md., and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Odis Gaither on April 8, 2019, and seven brothers, Clifton Oscar Light, Roy Light, Bruce Irvin Light, Paul Light, Eugene “Skippy” Light, Kenneth Light, Earl Light and her beloved dog Belle Marie.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 4581 Orleans Road, Great Cacapon, W.Va., with Pastors Dick Voorhaar and Steve Dawson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to Mt. Zion Church Cemetery, c/o Stuart Gloyd, 672 Orleans Road, Great Cacapon, WV 25422.
