The Berkeley Springs Police Department, along with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department and West Virginia State Police, are searching for a white male suspect who robbed the City National Bank in Berkeley Springs shortly after 3 p.m. today, Tuesday, June 4. Berkeley Springs Police Chief T.J. Johnson said the man is 6′ tall, around 220 lbs. and has a grey goatee. He is seen in bank security footage wearing a baseball cap, a hooded sweatshirt, jeans and black sneakers with white markings. Chief Johnson said the man presented a note to bank tellers and left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was seen leaving the front of the bank on foot in the direction of Hunter’s Hardware, but police believe he may have left the area in a vehicle. Chief Johnson said the man did not have a weapon and no tellers were harmed in the incident. Police were alerted to the robbery when a teller pressed an alarm inside the bank.
Berkeley Springs police are being assisted by area agencies in their search for the man. K-9 units tracked a scent trail in the direction of the former Old Factory Antique Mall along Williams Street, northeast of the bank.
