The success of the Berkeley Springs High School TennisTeams paid off last weekas both teams captured the2018 Potomac Valley ConferenceChampionships.
The Tribe not only capturedthe team titles, but hadseveral athletes capture individual
PVC Championshipsas well.
Berkeley Springs headcoach Raynette Mock was tabbed as PVC Coach of the
Year for both boys and girls.
The Lady Indians broughtback two individual singleschampions as Lizzy Langenstein
(#3 seed) and LeahReed (#4 seed) continued their impressive undefeated season.
Langenstein won her PVC championship by an 8-4 scorein the finals.
Reed won her PVC title with an 8-1 score in the finals.
Berkeley Springs also captured two double PVC championships as the #1 seed
doubles team of Dalas Carder and Natalie Hashem defeatedwo teams that they had lost
to in the regular season to advance to the finals. In the finals Carder/Hashem won by
an 8-2 score.
The #2 seed doubles team of Langenstein and Reed remained undefeated in doubles
play as they won their double championship by the score of 8-2.
On the boys side BerkeleySprings started off at a disadvantage with only four boys
on the team instead of the six that the other teams fielded.
The Tribe had two players capture PVC individual championships.
Carder captured the #1 seed championship with an 8-1 win over an opponent that he had lost to in the regular season. Matthew Rubeck won the #3 seed championship by an 8-4 score.
Carder and Rubeck then teamed up to capture the #1 seed doubles PVC championship
by the score of 8-1.
Despite the other doubles team not winning in the final round their play contributed
to the team score for the Tribe and their outstanding play and winning points led to the
winning team score.
Both of the Berkeley Springs tennis teams ended their regular season this past
Friday, April 27 by defeating both Frankfort and Musselman.
The Lady Indians ended their regular season with an impressive 13-2 overall record and a 12-1 record in regional play. The Lady Indians had several singles and
doubles teams to be seeded in the regional tournament.
Langenstein and Reed finished the regular season with a perfect 17-0 record in singles
play. As a double teamLangenstein and Reed finished the regular season with
a perfect 15-0 record. With their undefeated records both Langenstein and Reed are
seeded first in both singles and doubles in the regional tournament.
On the boys side the Indians finished the season with aregional record of 7-3-1.
“With only four boys the record states the quality ofthe players since they start
out each team match with one loss. In four matches the Indians
had only three players which meant they had to win
every match they played in to win overall as a team. The Tribe was able to do this two
of the four times. Their records also led to some of the boys being seeded in the
regional tournament,” stated Coach Mock.
Next up for the Berkeley Springs tennis teams is the Class AA Region I Championships
tomorrow, Thursday, May 3 at West Liberty University.
