In football, Riggleman was an All-PVC linebacker and an All PVC Offensive guard in 1995. However it was the wrestling mat that Riggleman was a dominant force despite injuries causing him to miss significant time his freshman and senior seasons.
With a career wrestling record of 86-17, Riggleman was a two time PVC and a Regional Champion his sophomore and junior seasons. In 1995 Riggleman finished third in the state wrestling tournament, however the points he scored in the tournament were very important as the team under Horace Blankenship captured the 1995 State Wrestling Team Championship.
In 1994 Riggleman captured his only state wrestling individual championship with an impressive season. He entered the state tournament that year as the number three seed with a 32-3 record.
In the first round Riggleman won by decision over David Williams (Roane County) 9-0. In the championship quarterfinals he pinned Jason Marling (Bishop Donahue) in 4:47 to advance to the championship semifinals. In the semifinals Riggleman won by a 9-5 decision over Brian Toney (Wirt) to advance to the finals. In the championship finals he faced Mike Burke (East Bank). Once again relying on his technique he picked up the 12-7 win to capture the state gold and finish the season 36-3.
Riggleman also represented Team Maryland (since WV didn’t have a team) at the Cadet Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota. He finished in the top 16 in Greco wrestling and in the top 10 in freestyle wrestling.
Riggleman has been an active youth, middle and high school coach the last several years passing on his knowledge of the sport of wrestling. With his wrestling and football accolades he takes his rightful place as a member of the Berkeley Springs High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2019.
