Balloon event to honor Miller, benefit family

Several memorial efforts for the family of crash victim Lexus Miller have taken shape since

the Berkeley Springs teen was identified as one of two fatalities in a May 3 accident along U.S. 522.

Individuals have set up a memorial fund effort to help the family pay for burial expenses and other needs. By Monday morning, that fund had exceeded $15,000 in contributions.

Ruthie Lewis of Berkeley Springs also set up a memorial balloon launch and fundraiser for the Miller family. It will be held on Wednesday, May 8 at Widmyer Elementary’s track. The event start at 6 p.m. Lewis said balloons marked with memories and memorial wishes will be released around 7:30 p.m. She said Pastor Lisa Unger will say a prayer before balloons are launched.

Donations for each balloon will go to the Miller family. Lewis said others have designed decals and shirts in remembrance of Miller to help with fundraising for her family.

Lexus Miller was the daughter of Jake and Redena Miller of Berkeley Springs. She was a 2018 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.
