1934-2018
Alfred George Dean, Jr., 83, of Marlinton, died Monday, April 2, 2018 at Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg.
Born July 23, 1934 at Marlinton, he was the son of the late Alfred George Dean, Sr. and Ina Smith Dean.
He was of Methodist faith.
He graduated in 1956 from Marlinton High School. After graduating he served in the U.S. Army until 1959 and then worked at Dean’s Hardware Store in Mill Point.
He was also employed by the WV Dept. of Highways, Park Superintendent at Canaan Valley, then worked at Cacapon State Park as Golf Superintendent for 10 years, Park Superintendent at Valley Falls State Park, Fairmont and retired in 1997 from Kumbrabow State Forest in Randolph County.
He was a member of the Watoga State Park Foundation and served on the Pocahontas County Democratic Executive Committee.
He liked gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janet Rose Dean; one daughter, Dana Wentland, Dover, Del.; three sons, Bradley Dean, Marlinton, Jeffrey Dean, Orlando, Fla. and Dewayne Dean, Heidelberg, Germany; two sisters, Grace Combs, Huntington and Gay Fields, New Cumberland; one brother, Elmer Dean, Marlinton and five grandchildren, Elizabeth Wentland, Jermaine Dean, Justin Dean, Austin Dean and Amber Dean.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Dean and William Dean.
A funeral service was held Friday, April 6 at Kimble Funeral Home, Marlinton. Pastor Jim Murphy officiated. Interment was at Beaver Creek Cemetery where a military graveside service was conducted by members of the Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Guard.
