Members of the Paw Paw High School Track Team traveled to Doddridge County High School for the Class A Region II Track and Field Championships last Wednesday, June 2.
Needing to be at their best the Pirates track members were ready to compete.
In the 800 meters Paw Paw senior Dominic Tanouye finished in seventh place with a time of 2:12.64 just missing an out large bid for the Class A State Track and Field Championships.
In the girls shot put Paw Paw junior Alexis Barker punched her ticket to her first state meet with an impressive third place finish in the shot put with a throw of 28’6 ½”. Teammate Addison Ross finished in seventh place with a throw of 28’01”. Barker then heaved a throw of 77’4” in the discus to place sixth in that event.
On the boy’s side sophomore, Dalton Kasekamp made school history becoming the first boy’s thrower to qualify for the state meet.
Kasekamp was able to qualify in both the shot and discus. In the shot put, he finished in second place with a throw of 42’7”. In the discus, he threw 116’11” to earn an at large bid to the state meet.
As a team the Paw Paw girls finished in 11th place with seven points while the boy’s team finished in 11th place with 12 points.
The Class A State Track and Field Championships will be held on June 9 and 10 at Laidley Field in Charleston.
Kasekamp and Barker will attempt to put their name in the Paw Paw record books as the first state placers in the throwing events for the Pirates.
