by Jamie Harris & Bill Sterner
Sports writers from The Morgan Messenger and The Hancock News have partnered with the athletic directors and head coaches from the Berkeley Springs High School, Hancock High School and Paw Paw High School to select an All Area team for the fall varsity sports that the teams compete in.
With each all area team there will be a player of the year for both the male and female athletes selected by the sports writers and head coaches.
This fall in girls’ volleyball Berkeley Springs High School, Hancock and Paw Paw High School fielded teams. Berkeley Springs swept Paw Paw while splitting contests with Hancock. Hancock picked up a season sweep over Paw Paw.
This year the All Area volleyball team placed nine players on the team.
Berkeley Springs is led by freshman Ally Morris, junior Mckayla Keenan and sophomore Carlee Spielman. No season stats were available for Berkeley Springs.
Hancock is led by Sarah Kerns (71 aces, 67 kills and 41 digs), Sunni Schriver (54 aces, 76 kills and 24 blocks), and Kallee Seal (10 aces and 71 assists).
Paw Paw is led by Laken Day (83 service points, 34 aces, 49 digs, four kills and 21 assists), Halle Galliher (69 service points, 28 aces, 89 digs and three assists) and Addison Ross (60 service points, 31 aces, 27 digs, 22 kills and one assist).
The 2018 Morgan Messenger and Hancock News All Area Volleyball Team Player of the Year is Berkeley Springs freshman Ally Morris. Even though no stats were available to print it was evident that the freshman player was the best all-around player in the area.
Morris was a leader on the court for the Lady Indians who picked up impressive wins this season over Hancock, Keyser and Petersburg.
