Snow make-up days set for schools

by Kate Evans

The Morgan County School Board has approved changes to their calendar to make up lost instructional time for missed school days due to inclement weather so far this year.

The board changed Monday, February 19 (President’s Day) and Friday, June 1 to full days of school for students at their January 9 meeting. February 19 and June 1 are being used as snow make-up days for the first two days of missed school this year, which were January 5 and January 8, said Morgan County School Treasurer Ann Bell.

Students missed a third full day of school last Wednesday, January 17 due to snow and inclement weather.

February 19 and June 1 are two of six out-of-school environment (OS) days that are built into the school calendar as snow make-up days, Bell said. The other four OS days that can be used as snow make-up days are at the end of the school year and are June 4, 5, 6 and 7.

The school board can change the school calendar later in the year after the threat of snow is past.

School officials also changed Monday, April 9 to a full day of school for students and moved the Monday, April 9 Faculty Senate Day to Friday, April 27. The board adopted those two calendar changes because SAT test for juniors will be administered online on Tuesday, April 10 statewide.
