Paw Paw police seize large cache of heroin

Officers with the Paw Paw Police Department recovered a large quantity of heroin during a traffic stop on December 19.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Morgan County Magistrate Court, Officer J.C. Burkholder stopped a car speeding westbound on Paw Paw Road. During the stop, Burkholder detected the odor of marijuana and asked to search the car.

Anthony E. Vaughn, 39, of Harrisonburg, Va. allegedly handed police a bag of green leafy substance which later tested positive as marijuana.

Officers located another bag of marijuana in the car, and discovered a large white ball wrapped in plastic tucked inside a backpack. The substance inside tested positive for heroin, the complaint said.

According to Burkholder, officers seized 16 grams of marijuana and 94 grams of heroin during the stop.

Vaughn and the driver of the vehicle – a Franky Del Toro, 32, of Hialeah, Fla. – were both charged with possession with the intent to deliver the drugs. Del Toro is being held at the Eastern Regional Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond. Vaughn was released on a $25,000 bond.
