Man rescued from crash off Paw Paw Road

A South Dakota man was recovered from a vehicle that crashed down a steep embankment off Paw Paw Road in the early hours of December 9.

According to police, David Neff, 57, of Box Elder, South Dakota was pulled from his 2015 Kia Optima after crashing along the 6700 block of Paw Paw Road shortly after midnight on Saturday.

Police were dispatched to the area after a 911 hang-up. Officers located power lines down in the area. Cpl. Lahman of the West Virginia State Police and Deputy Lahman of the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area, along with Deputy Eckerson and Hampshire County EMS.

Officers located Neff’s vehicle 150 yards east of the roadway down a steep embankment. Responders recovered Neff, who was unresponsive, from the vehicle and gave him medical aid. He was transported by EMS to a landing zone, where he was then flown to Winchester Medical Center for treatment.

Assisting law enforcement on the scene were Slanesville fire and rescue personnel, Morgan County EMS, firefighters from Paw Paw and Great Cacapon.
