1938-2017

Patricia Glendora Shambaugh Hayes Fields, age 79, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her family and while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born on March 27, 1938 in Magnolia, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harold and Maxine Shambaugh Hayes.

She was a graduate of 1956 from Paw Paw High School. Pat attended Trinity United Methodist Church. She retired as a clerk for the ABC State Store in Berkeley Springs. Pat worked at Little Miss Tomato Factory, High’s convenience store and she was a homemaker in recent years. She was a member of Morgan County Republican Club where she served as past president and secretary/treasurer and was past volunteer of year for the Republican Club, member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60 Ladies Auxiliary where she served as past president and active with girl’s state and was a Girl Scout leader. Pat was an avid bowler and bowled on the women’s and mixed bowling league. She enjoyed crocheting and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Pat is survived by her husband of 60 years Clyde William “Casey” Fields at home; three daughters, Diana Lee Everett and husband Ulysses John, Jr. and Pamela Sue MacCumbee, all of Berkeley Springs, Kimberly Jo Hanback and husband Tony William of Hedgesville, W.Va.; one sister, Shirley Hayes Michael of Dover, Del.; three brothers, Ronald Hayes of Pasadena, Md., Roger Day of Great Cacapon W.Va., Ronald Day of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; nine grandchildren, Wendy Nicole McBee Seltzer, Kristen Renee McBee Lucas, Robert “Joe” Jackson, Jr., Candida Everett, Ulysses John Everett, III and Danielle Everett, all of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Dustin William MacCumbee of Inwood, W.Va., Kasi Jo Jackson of Hagerstown, Md., and James Hanback of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; seven great grandchildren, Kamryn Nicole Seltzer, Trenton Drake Lucas, Maria Tucker, Natashia Humphrey, Shalynn Humphrey, Kailie Feiser, all of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Emma Nicole Carola of Inwood, W.Va.; one great great grandson, Asher Michael Cain of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her godparents that raised her, Courtney and Margaret “Maggie” Day; one sister, Frances Hayes Matthew; three brothers, James Hayes, Sr., Russell Day and Richard “Rick” Day.

Services were conducted at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with Pastor Steve Dawson and Pastor Dick Voorhaar and a memorial service provided by the Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60 Ladies Auxiliary. Burial was private.

Family received friends from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., where the funeral home will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the convenience of friends.
