The Morgan Messenger All Area Cross Country Team

Logan Heironimus and Belle Harvey Logan Heironimus and Belle Harvey Sports writers from The Morgan Messenger and The Hancock News partnered with athletic directors and head coaches from the Berkeley Springs High School, Hancock High School and Paw Paw High School to select an All Area team for varsity sports that the teams compete in. With each all area team there is a player of the year for both the male and female athletes selected by the sports writers and head coaches.

This fall in boys and girls cross country Berkeley Springs High School and Paw Paw High School fielded programs. This year the All Area Cross Country Teams have six boys and seven girls representing their schools.

The 2017 All Area Boys Cross Country team is led by the boys Runner of the Year Berkeley Springs High School senior Logan Heironimus.

Heironimus who missed the 2017 spring track season due to injuries bounced back in a big way for the Tribe. Heironimus started the season off with a strong first place finish in the initial Cacapon Park tri meet for the Tribe. From there Heironimus kept up the comeback by capturing his first ever Potomac Valley Conference Championship. From a solid top 15 finish at the Class A/AA Region I Championships sent Heironimus to the WV Class A/AA State Cross Country Championships for the fourth straight season. There Heironimus ended his Tribe cross country running career with a 20th place finish.


Davy Mundey Davy Mundey Also representing Berkeley Springs High School on the team is senior Davy Mundey and junior Jeremiah Torres.

Paw Paw High School was led by freshman Dominic Tanouye who was a Class A/AA state qualifier this season.

Paw Paw is also represented by senior Hunter Kasekamp and junior Landon Ridgeway.

Those three runners were a key tri for Coach Ian Helmick as the Pirates picked up some impressive finishes this season including a win over their country rival Berkeley Springs.


Jeremiah Torres Jeremiah Torres On the girls side Berkeley Springs High School captured all six places on the All Area team led by the 2017 girls Runner of the Year freshman Belle Harvey.

Harvey burst onto the running scene in a big way for the Class A/AA Region I Champions Lady Indians cross country squad. Harvey came into the season as a potential number five runner for Berkeley Springs who had two seniors and two juniors returning and were eyeing a run at their third state team championship. Meet after meet Harvey kept moving up the ladder and capped off the dynamic season by capturing her first ever Potomac Valley Conference Championship. From there Harvey finished in fourth place at the Class A/AA Region I Championships. At the Class A/AA State Cross Country Championships Harvey came in 10th place just missing out on earning a top 10 honor. Harvey becomes the first freshman to capture the Runner of the Year award for cross country.


Hunter Kasekamp Hunter Kasekamp Also representing Berkeley Springs High School is their two senior leaders Stephanie Golden and Amanda Lupton who have been the foundation of the Lady Indians cross country program for the last four years. Both Golden and Lupton earned their second straight All Area honors.

Juniors Brooke Davison and Alex Banks also made their second straight All Area Cross Country team. Joining them is freshman Taylor Mason and sophomore Kierstyn Wise.

Those seven runners helped lead the Lady Indians to the regional championship and a third place finish at the state championships for Coach Dave Aberegg.
