Double win

Dear Editor:

Last week’s Messenger included an article about the State Tourism office getting the rights to use John Denver’s popular song “Take Me Home, Country Roads” in marketing for the state. It is a fine song for the State of West Virginia. However, in all fairness it should be noted that the song (also written with Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert) was inspired while driving down the rural winding Clopper Road in Montgomery County in Maryland. Another obscurity is that Danoff had briefly considered using “Massachusettes” rather than “West Virginia.” I guess West Virginia wins twice.
