The Morgan Messenger & The Hancock News All Area Volleyball Team Panther Sara Kerns selected as Player of the Year

This fall the sports writers from The Morgan Messenger and The Hancock News partnered with the athletic directors and head coaches from the Berkeley Springs High School, Hancock High School and Paw Paw High School to select an All Area team for each varsity sport that the teams compete in. With each all area team there will be a player of the year for both the male and female athletes selected by the sports writers and head coaches.

This fall in girls’ volleyball Berkeley Springs High School, Hancock High School and Paw Paw High School fielded volleyball teams.

Hancock defeated both Berkeley Springs and Paw Paw in the head-to-head match ups. Berkeley Springs was able to sweep Paw Paw.

The committee selected 10 players for the All Area volleyball team .

Hancock leads the All Area Team with five players.

The Lady Panthers were led by the 2017 Morgan Messenger & Hancock News All Area Volleyball Team Player of the Year junior Sarah Kerns.

Kerns an outside hitter had an outstanding season on the court with 115 aces, 282 service attempts, 56 kills, 129 digs and scored 171 points for the Lady Panthers.

Joining Kerns on the team from Hancock are senior Evelyn Davis a libero had 38 aces, 125 service attempts, 117 digs and scored 38 points. Sunni Shriver a junior middle hitter had 47 aces, 163 service attempts, 44 kills, nine blocks, 21 digs, and scored 100 points. Cora Keefer a sophomore outside hitter had 44 aces, 144 service attempts, 45 kills, 51 digs and scored 89 points. Rachel Faith a freshman middle hitter had four aces, 37 service attempts, 17 kills, 13 blocks, six digs and scored 34 points.

This season the Panthers were coached by Meagan Graff.

Berkeley Springs High School placed a pair of juniors on the team led by Taylor Butts.

Butts is an outside hitter is a two time All Area volleyball

(2016) selection finished the season with 75 kills, 22 aces and an 81% serve percentage. Joining Butts on the team is fellow junior Tailyn Michael. Michael is also an outside hitter for Lady Indians Coach Les Morris and finished the season with 32 kills, 27 aces and a 92% serve percentage.

Paw Paw High School placed three players on the all area team led by Halle Galliher who had 23 aces, 34 digs, three kills and 100 service points. Joining Galliher for the Lady Pirates is Megan Brown who had 28 aces, 60 digs, 19 kills and 90 service points and Elizabeth Henderson who had 35 aces, 69 digs, 22 kills and 61 service points. The Pirates are coached by Holly Palmer.
