Varsity Wolves advance to TCYFL Super Bowl

by Becky Barkley

The Varsity Wolves hosted Martinsburg Black in a semifinal match up of the Tri- County Youth Football League on Saturday, October 21.

The Varsity Wolves clinched a second place seed in the playoffs with their 6-2 regular season record and earned a first round play off bye last week.

In the opening drive, Martinsburg drove the ball down the field when the Wolves defense forced a timely fumble with Malachi Harrell coming up with the fumble recovery.

The Wolves offense then took the field and completed their opening drive with a 30 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Gavin Barkley to Antonio Sanchez.

The Wolves added to their score in the first half with a 25 yard touchdown pass from Barkley to Evan Thompson.

The Wolves defense forced three more turnovers throughout the game. Thompson and Dezmond Cook recorded their own fumble recoveries while Hudson Clement pulled down an interception.

Barkley scored the final score for the Wolves on a quarterback sneak.

Defensively, the Wolves were led by Austin Patton, Barkley, Thompson and Cole Bernhard.

With the 20-14 win, the Wolves have secured their spot in the TCYFL Varsity Super Bowl where they will face off against the Giants. Game time is at 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 28 at Marcus Field in Ranson.
