The Paw Paw Pirates Boys Cross Country Team finished in fifth place with a team score of 98 in the Potomac Valley Conference A/AA last Tuesday, October 10 at the challenging Cacapon State Park Cross Country Course. Frankfort took the team title with 21 points.

Paw Paw was led by senior standout Hunter Kasekamp who finished in sixth place with a time of 20:38.40. Kasekamp just missed out on a top five finish by seven seconds.

Freshman Dominic Tanouye finished in 11th place with a time of 21:16.10 and senior Landon Ridgeway finished in 17th place with a time of 22:20.00 to give the Pirates three runners in the top 20 of the event.

Sophomores Dylan Moreland (38th place, 24:36.20) and Coby Ridgeway (44th place, 25:27.70) rounded out the scoring for Paw Paw.

Pirates head cross country coach Ian Helmick was selected as the 2017 PVC A/AA Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year. This is Helmick’s first coach of the year honor and is deserving for all the hard work and dedication that Helmick has put into the program. The payoff has been very rewarding for the Pirates this fall as they have been competitive and even own a win over Morgan County neighbor Berkeley Springs.

Next up for Paw Paw is the Class A/AA Region I Championships which will be held at Warm Springs Middle School on Thursday, October 19 at 1 p.m.
