Paw Paw Lady Pirates pick up volleyball win

The Paw Paw High School Lady Pirates hosted Bishop Walsh in volleyball action at the friendly confines of the Paw Paw gym on Monday, October 2.

The Lady Pirates were able to record their first win of the season by taking a 3-1 win over the visitors from Cumberland by scores of 25-14, 24-26, 25-17 and 25-15.

Halle Galliher led the Pirates with 13 points including two aces. Maristy Crosco had 11 points, an ace and one assist, Hanna Hendrickson had seven points, one ace and one assist, Megan Brown had six points, four aces and four kills, Laken Day had six points, Elizabeth Henderson had six points, four aces and five kills and Janae Hott had six points and two aces.

"Tonight's win was a big one, not only was it their first win of the season, but more importantly a team building one. The Lady Pirates are a young team and have been battling team unity from the beginning,” stated Paw Paw head coach Holly Palmer.

Also on Monday night the Paw Paw Lady Pirates Middle School Team hosted the Lady Cougars from East Hardy. East Hardy was able to squeeze out a 2-1 win by scores of 7-25, 25-17 and 19- 25.

Paw Paw was led by Addison Ross who had 11 points and Kelsey Hayes had eight points.

"The middle school team has only seven players deep and also on the young side. The girls are playing hard and falling short of the victory,” stated Coach Palmer.
