BSHS Lady Indians stun Keyser, 3-2

The Berkeley Springs High School Lady Indians Volleyball Team record two wins last week on the hardwood. Starting with an upset win over a big rival.

The Lady Indians Varsity Volleyball Team pulled off an upset in front of the home crowd as they picked up a thrilling five set win against Keyser last Tuesday, September 19.

In game one Berkeley Springs picked up a heart pounding 26-24 win. In game two Keyser bounced back to tie the match at 1-1 with a 25-21 win. In game three the Lady Indians bounced back to take a 2-1 lead with a 25-19 win. Game four went back to Keyser as the Lady Golden Tornadoes picked up an exciting 25-23 win to tie the match at 2-2. In the final match to determine the outcome, the Lady Indians got the final point on an ace from sophomore Makayla Keenan to take the 15-11 match and win the game 3-2.

“We played well tonight. I'm proud that these girls never quit. It could have been less stressful for us if we would have served better today, but they played great in other aspects of the game,” stated Lady Indians head coach Les Morris.

Berkeley Springs fell in three games to St. Maria Goretti by the scores of 25- 13, 25-9 and 25-8 on Thursday, September 21.

The Lady Indians made the long trip to Philip Barbour High School Saturday, September 23, for the PVC Sectional Seeding Tournament. Berkeley Springs had to play five games and ended the day going 1-4 in those matches.

The Lady Indians lost to Petersburg (2-0), Keyser (2-0), Philip Barbour (2- 0) and Frankfort (2-0).

The lone Berkeley Springs win came over Grafton by the scores of 25-9 and 25-19.

Frankfort won the tournament and will be the overall #1 seed for the Class AA Sectionals which will be held in October.

Berkeley Springs will be the #4 seed for the sectionals.

“Winning two games this week is a step in the right direction and we will continue to work hard in practice and prepare for the playoffs at the end of October. We will be tested this week when we play Mountain View Christian on Tuesday, September 26 and head to Charleston for another tough tournament at Charleston Catholic this coming weekend September 30,” stated Morris.

In JV volleyball the Lady Indians improved their record to 4-3 on the season with a pair of wins over Keyser (25-16 and 25-12 on September 19. Then on September 21 they defeated St. Maria Goretti (25-20 and 25-8).

“The JV team is playing well this season. They are gaining valuable experience with each game and their teamwork is beyond their years of experience. I'm excited to watch these players develop,” stated Coach Morris.
