More Legion men identified

We ran this photo on September 20 as our Photo of the Week, with many names still missing. Bob Rowland, veteran of World War II and member of American Legion Post 60, had shared the photo, taken on the western side of Berkeley Springs State Park. Since that publication, we heard from Jean Cooper, daughter of Lenue Johnson, one of the men in the photograph. She said the group was called a “burial squad.” Ike Gurson, son of another man pictured, also brought us names to identify the men and said the pictured was of the post’s Honor Guard, taken in 1948 or ‘49. Disputed names are underlined. Pictured are, top row from left: Ray Widmyer, Bob Willard, Clyde Golden, Chester Weber, Matthew Ambrose, David Johnson. Front row, from left: Abe Gurson, Dick Johnson, ?, Bernard Michael, Tony Gerimo, Vernon Michael, Dick Swink, “Bud” Lenue Johnson, Reverend Reclley and Chester Davison.
