Cross Country Lady Indians win Forest Festival Championship

Junior Brooke Davison finished in seventh place. Junior Brooke Davison finished in seventh place. Both the Berkeley Springs High School Indians and Paw Paw High School Pirates Cross Country Teams headed to Elkins for the Forest Festival Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, September 9.

The Lady Indians who took over the #1 Class AA ranking in the state were out to prove that they were a team to be reckon with.

Behind the three runners finishing in the top 10 the Lady Indians cruised to the Forest Festival Team Championship by outdistancing Doddridge County by eight points.

The Lady Indians were led by senior Amanda Lupton who continues to have a strong senior season. Lupton finished in third place with a time of 22:48.99. Junior Brooke Davison finished in seventh place with a time of 23:34.02 and freshman Belle Harvey was eighth with a time of 23:39.52. The Lady Indians also got a 35th place finish from sophomore Kierstyn Wise with a time of 27:05.06, 39th place finish from freshman Taylor Mason with a time of 27:36.97 and a 40th place finish from sophomore Hannah Moran with a time of 27:32.27. Senior Kaitlin Griffin finished in 45th place with a time of 28:24.47.

Paw Paw’s Marissa Moreland finished the event with a time of 40:10.

On the boys side Paw Paw senior Hunter Kasekamp had an outstanding race finishing in 13th place with a time of 20:16.44. Freshman Dominic Tanouye finished in 24th place for the Pirates with a time of 20:41.99. Sophomore Dylan Moreland finished in 89th place for the Pirates with a time of 24:21.19.

The Berkeley Springs boys team finished in 12th place overall in the team standings.

The Tribes top finisher was junior Dylan Wise 66th place in a time of 22:49.83. Junior Roman Kirk 75th place in a time of 23:27.54, freshman Logan Zimmerman 84th place in a time of 24:10.90, junior Dylan Carder 90th place in a time of 24:21.49 and sophomore Matthew Slovinsky 92nd place in a time of 24:23.37 also helped lead the Indians.
