The Berkeley Springs Indians soccer team kicked off the 2017 season by hosting rival Keyser on the pitch on Tuesday, August 22. The Indians were looking to pick up a win despite a roster full of new players and a lineup that had several senior and freshmen starting.

Keyser was able to pick up two goals in the first half while Berkeley Springs added a goal from senior Aaron Farris to send the game into the half 2-1.

In the second half Farris tied the game at 2-2 with his second goal seconds into the start of the second half. Junior Remington Hiles added a goal with 34:44 left in the second half to give Berkeley Springs a 3-2 lead. Three minutes later Farris completed the hat trick with his third goal to give the Tribe a comfortable 4-2 lead.

Keyser would battle back and cut the score to 4-3 with 28:44 left in the second half. The Golden Tornado would then tie the game on penalty kick at 4-4 with 15:51 left in the game.

Keyser would score a goal to go up 5-4 and with time ticking down fast Berkeley Springs needed a miracle to tie the game. A miracle it was as Cameron Wee found an opening and delivered a solid shot into the goal to give the Tribe a 5-5 tie with Keyser.

The Tribe was back in action on Thursday, August 24 when they hosted the Class AAA Spring Mills Cardinals. However Berkeley Springs was not at full strength as three players from Tuesday night’s game was sidelined with injuries. Spring Mills was able to pick up the 8-1 win over the shorthanded Tribe. The Indians only goal came from Christhian Salinas early in the first half.

This past Saturday, August 26 the Tribe traveled to North Marion to take on the Huskies who are a sectional foe. North Marion took an early 2-0 lead and from there picked up a 3-1 win over the Indians. Berkeley Springs got its lone goal from freshman Tristan Romo who scored on a penalty kick.

The Indians (0-2-1) will be back in action today, Wednesday, August 30 when they host Bishop Walsh at 5 p.m. Then on Thursday, August 31 the Indians will travel to Frankfort for a 4p.m. start. Then on Saturday, September 2 the Indians will travel to East Fairmont for a 10 a.m. game.
