We are helpers

Those with a memory of past floods – from local ones to the horrors of Hurricane Katrina – are unnerved by the situation unfolding in Houston and elsewhere in Texas. Predictions say Louisiana could be next for flooding. To watch a city the size of Houston be crippled by a single storm is humbling.

There are thousands of acts of bravery and survival unfolding there. Each of them reinforce our knowledge that Americans help one another in times of need. That help continues to come from all kinds of people from all places. Even removed from the rising waters by so many miles, local people feel the trouble with heavy hearts and are already looking for ways to offer help as the disaster unfolds.

We are proud that’s who we are.
