Mr. Unger’s store on the corner

Louie Youngblood shared this photo of Rumsey Unger’s store and Esso gas station that used to stand on the corner of U.S. 522 and Winchester Grade Road south of Berkeley Springs. The photo is not dated. Besides being a general store, the block building once housed Dugan’s Grocery, then a variety of other businesses including an ice cream shop. The building was torn down this year to make way for the new Sheetz station. If you have a “Photo of the Week” – from an old store to a scene at the shore, from long long ago or just the other day -- why not lend it to The Morgan Messenger?
