Patsy J. Kerns


Patsy June Kerns, age 80, of Hancock, Md., went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 14, 2017, at the home of her sister, following a brief illness.

Born March 15, 1937, in Mifflinburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Augustus A. and Weretha M. (Younker) Kerns.

She was a 1955 graduate of Hancock High School, and a 1959 graduate of Frostburg State Teachers College, with a Bachelor’s degree in Education.

She was a member of the Grace Christian Fellowship Presbyterian Church, in Hancock, where she was a former Sunday school and Bible school teacher.

She was employed as a teacher in the Washington County schools, and Grace Academy, in Hagerstown, Md.

Patsy is survived by two sisters, Nita Glaser and Carolyn Jackson, both of Hagerstown, Md.; two brothers, Ronald Kerns, of Hagerstown, and Daniel Kerns and wife, Debbie, of Hancock; two sisters-in-law, Carole Kerns, of Hancock, and Phyllis Kerns, of Hagerstown; and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, H. Lynn Kerns, of Hancock, and L. “Gene” Kerns, of Hagerstown.

The family received friends at the Grace Christian Fellowship Church, 130 N. Pennsylvania Ave., in Hancock, on Thursday, August 17, 2017, from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m., when funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Edward Guyer officiating. Burial followed at the Damascus Cemetery, in Big Cove Tannery, Pa.
