Irish Road Bowling at Cacapon

The game of Irish Road Bowling started off with beautiful weather at the Cacapon State Park. This Sport was started in the Eastern Panhandle 10 years ago.

The game started off atop a long winding hill with Gary McDonald, originally from Northern Ireland and coming from a long line of Irish Road Bowlers, throwing out the Ceremonial First bowl.

The Lions Club had an International Student, Anni Huusko, visiting from Finland who bowled for the first time. There were 70 people bowling the road from all over the Eastern Panhandle and even out of State.

Since originally starting this event there has always been anywhere from 60 to 80 bowlers.

The Course Record, of 27, was broken this year by the team “Bucktown Tossers” with a score of 24 and team Reese’s Pieces came in second with a score of 29.



The “Reese’s Pieces” bowlers were Derick Reese, Jesse Reese, Matt Reese and Orion Lloyd. The “Reese’s Pieces” bowlers were Derick Reese, Jesse Reese, Matt Reese and Orion Lloyd.
