Emily M. Ziesmer

1917-2017

Emily McGhinnis Ziesmer, 100, died Wednesday, July 12, 2017 in a nursing home.

She was born May 24, 1917 in Lenoir, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Theophilus and Minnie Presnell McGhinnis.

She graduated in 1940 from Washington Sanitarium as a registered nurse.

She served in Washington, D.C. for 26 years and also in West Virginia for 26 years as a public health nurse. She retired in 1989 and moved to Wisconsin.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda Ziesmer, Lena, Wis.; two grandchildren, John Copley III, Nashville, Tenn. and Michael Goss, Dalton, Ga.; two step children, Elgin Ziesmer, Oconto and Jeff Ziesmer, Pound; eight great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gustave Ziesmer whom she married in December 21, 1940 who died January 19, 1998; her parents; two sisters, Edith Sheffield and Betty Robertson and four brothers, Harry, Douglas, Willis and Roger McGhinnis.

Arrangements were handled by Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home.
