Time to register those winning entries for the County Expo

The Morgan County Expo is coming, and the first activities and entry deadlines are fast approaching.

Have you entered your favorite recipe for grandma’s jelly or jam? Have you taken a photograph that is award winning? If not, then you have missed the fun and excitement of a hometown county expo.

If you grow it, sew it, bake it, make it, photograph it, paint it, there’s a category for you. Categories range from agriculture produce, horticulture, baked goods, food preservation, sewing, needle arts, arts & crafts, and photography. There are youth and adult classes in all categories.

The Extension Master Gardeners again open their traditional “Crazy Container” contest to all residents of Morgan County. The rules are simple and there are categories for both adult and youth. Use any crazy container you can think of to plant in, plant a flower, vegetable, fairy or any type of garden.

Morgan County Community Educational Outreach Service will sponsor the Scone and Drop Cookie Contest and the home arts displays. Residents who want to enter those contests must register ahead.

Entries are free until July 17. Late entries are accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 20 at the Extension office but entrants must pay a small fee to enter late. Registration forms won’t be accepted at the Expo.

Those entering Expo contests will check in their cakes, jams, veggies, crafts, artwork and other items at Berkeley Springs High School on Thursday, July 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. or on Friday, July 21 from 9 a.m. until noon.

All open class exhibitors must be a resident of Morgan County or a member of a non-profit organization in the county.

First, second, third and Best of Show ribbons will be awarded in all categories.

Entries will be picked up on Saturday, July 22 from 5 to 6 p.m.

Expo catalogs are running out so get your entries registered by Monday, July 17 at the WVU Extension office on Fairfax Street in downtown Berkeley Springs.

Entry forms and catalogs can also be accessed on their website. For more information, contact the Extension office at 304-258-8400. Road bowling this Saturday
