Real beauty of America

Dear Editor:

Last week’s letters to the editor by Patricia Mudgett and Jane Davis celebrated Independence Day far better than any fireworks I have ever seen.

Their display of words evoked “the real beauty that is America,” citing our endangered laws and, especially, the Bill of Rights. That document guarantees freedom of religion, speech, the press, and right to bear arms, among the liberties that for centuries have made America great.

Civics and government are seldom taught these days. So I appreciate last week’s letter writers for helping fill this gap, and hope that others will voice their appreciation of our liberties.

Meanwhile, may the Fourth be with Ms. Mudgett and Ms. Davis — and with the rest of us — always.

Maureen Mylander

Great Cacapon
