Pleasant View Elementary has been encouraging student leadership since its formation of a student council several years ago. Student council members assist Pleasant View Principal Keri Cunningham Chilcote with school programs and have helped with their United Way Day of Caring efforts and other school events.

The student council members for kindergarten through fifth grade are elected by their peers. They had class representatives from every grade level this year and a lot of girl power, Chilcote said during the school’s local school improvement council (LSIC) presentation at the April 4 school board meeting.

“Student council members are our future leaders,” she noted.

Chilcote and student council members led the reciting of the school pledge and singing of the school song at the LSIC presentation.
