Lyle E. Kerns


Lyle Eugene “Gene” Kerns, 77, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at his home.

He was born April 24, 1940 in Hancock, he was the son of the late Augustus and Wreatha Kerns.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis Gordon Kerns; one daughter, Kelly Kerns Redenbo, Hagerstown; two sons, Michael Kerns, Lafayette, Calif. and Joel Kerns, Berkeley Springs; four grandchildren, Matthew and Alek Redenbo, both of Hagerstown, Gordon and Erin Kerns, both of Lafayette; three sisters, Patsy Kerns, Hancock, Caroline Jackson and Nita Glaser, both of Hagerstown; two brothers, Ronald Kerns, Hagerstown and Daniel Kerns, Hancock and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by one brother, Harlan Kerns.

He graduated from Hancock High School and received his undergraduate degree from Elizabethtown College, Pa. and later earned a masters degree from Shippensburg University, Pa.

He worked as a guidance counselor at Boonsboro High School for many years.

A memorial service was held today, Wednesday, June 14 at Haven Lutheran Church, Hagerstown.

Arrangements have been made through the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd., North, Hagerstown.
