Ruby E. Kerns


Ruby Ellen Kerns, age 96, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at her daughter’s residence while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born on March 15, 1921 in Berkeley Springs, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Carrie Weber Michael.

Ruby attended schools in Morgan County. She was a faithful member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Ruby was a devoted farmer’s wife, a loving mother, a dedicated care giver. She was a homemaker all her life.

Ruby is survived by two children, Kenneth Lee Kerns and wife, Vivian; Linda Lou Shock and husband, Kent; three grandchildren, Diane Redick and husband, Jay, Shari Kerns Smith and husband, Quintin, David Kerns and wife, Dena; four great grandchildren, Ryan Redick, Natalie Redick, Edward Smith, Sarah Andrzejevski and husband, Fernando; one brother, Robert E. Michael; two sisters, Beatrice Davis, Lois Hamilton; several nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers in laws.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband H. Allen Kerns on January 11, 1999, her sister Hilda Michael, and her brother, James Leroy Michael.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, WV with Pastor Chuck Bergen officiating. Burial was in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery.

Family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home which was open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the convenience of friends.
