Berkeley Springs High School Valedictorian & Salutatorian

Berkeley Springs High School Class of 2017 announced the Valedictorian and Salutatorian last week. The 128th annual commencement ceremony took place on Thursday, May 25.

Eliza Caperton is the 2017 Valedictorian for Berkeley Springs High School.

Hannah Abdelaal is the 2017 Salutatorian for Berkeley Springs High School.

Caperton is the daughter of Susan and Gat Caperton.

Caperton ran cross country all through high school and was a member of the two state championship teams, a co-captain for two years and competed in the state meet all four years. She also ran track for four years and was a part of the state championship team from her sophomore year. She is the president of the National Honors Society and a member of the Science National Honors Society. She competed on the Envirothon Team and performed in one of the school plays.

Caperton plans to attend Washington University in St. Louis where she will pursue a Bachelors in Fine Arts degree with a double major in Cultural Anthropology.

Abdelaal is the daughter of Sharon and Mohamed Abdelaal.

Abdelaal was a member of the National Honors Society, Science National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, HSTA and participated in the West Virginia Governors School for the Arts. She has been an active volunteer with a local non-profit agency and with the nursing home for the past six years where she was twice named youth volunteer of the year. She is active in the theater at school and local level often accompanying productions on the piano.

Abdelaal will be attending Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont studying computer science and will continue her volunteerism and community theater.
