Paw Paw Pirates baseball hanging on in playoffs

by Jamie Harris

The Paw Paw Pirates Baseball Team opened up the Class A Sectional Baseball Championships by hitting the road for an opening round game with Tucker County on Monday, May 8. The Pirates were able to pull out a 4-1 win over Tucker to advance to the next round in the championship bracket which meant another road trip this time to #1 seed Pendleton County on Tuesday, May 9.

Against Pendleton the Pirates battled the entire game, however Pendleton was able to pick up the 11-4 win. With the loss the Pirates dropped to the consolation bracket and would face Union in a home contest. With the sectional tournament being a double elimination format Paw Paw would need to win to stay alive in the tournament.

The Pirates were able to do just that as they walloped the visiting Union team 20-4. With the win the Pirates were scheduled to face Moorefield in another elimination game, however the weather forced the postponement until Monday, May 22.
