Hunter Kasekamp qualifies for State Track & Field

Members of the Paw Paw High School Track Team ventured to Gilmer County for the Region I Class A Championships last Wednesday, May 10. Despite several athletes turning in their best performances of the season the Pirates will only be sending one athlete to the Class A state meet this coming week in Charleston.

Junior Hunter Kasekamp was able to run his best time of the spring with a 4:59 to finish in fourth place in the 1600 meters and capture an at large bid for the state meet.

In the girls 800 meters junior Haven Irwin finished in ninth place with a 3:03 which was her best time of the track season. Senior Amanda Benson ran a 3:32 in the 800 meters while Annie Stickley ran a 3:40 which was her best time as well. Elizabeth Henderson threw her personal best this season in the discus with a throw of 63’01”. In the shot put Henderson threw an 18’3”.

On the boys side, the Pirates saw Christian Braithwaite throw 34’7” in the shot put and then followed that up with an 89’6” throw in the discus. Jon Wolfe threw 29’2” in the shot put and then threw his personal best in the discus with a 73’1”.

The Class A Track & Field State Championships will be held this coming Friday and Saturday, May 19 and 20.
