Valerie A. Chavis


Valerie Ann Chavis, 49, of Paw Paw, died Sunday, May 7, 2017 at her home.

Born on April 21, 1968 in Charles Town, she was the daughter of Christine Ann Weber Farris, Great Cacapon and the late Robert Sylvester Whisner.

She was a Christian.

She was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.

She worked as a restaurant/ bar manager at Big & Tiny Tavern in Paw Paw. She worked as a CNA for the home health system. She was a clerk for the Morgan County Courthouse. She worked in management at Pine Valley boys group home and in recent years she was a homemaker.

She liked farming and being outdoors in the nature.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 29 years, Franklin Lindsay Chavis, Jr., at home; her children, Shannon Chavis, Bloomery, Sara Kendall, Berkeley Springs and Cecelia Chavis, Tillamook, Ore.; one sister, Katina Butts, Berkeley Springs; one brother, Bernard Whisner, Berkeley Springs; two grandchildren, David Kendall V and Peyton Kendall, both of Berkeley Springs; maternal grandmother, Lola Hovermale Mason, Berkeley Springs and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one sister, Tracy Carbaugh.

Memorial services will be conducted at noon, Sunday, May 21 at the Cacapon State Park at the nature shelter, with Pastor Ken Dyar officiating. Burial will be private.
