Norma V. Mencer


Norma Virginia Mencer, 73, of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, May 4, 2017 at War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs.

Born on June 17, 1943 in Morgan County, she was the daughter of the late Odis William and Agnes Virginia Shambaugh Gaither.

She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Orleans Crossroads.

She worked as a prep cook for the Cacapon State Park in Berkeley Springs and recent years was a homemaker.

She liked to read, go on various trips and watch Family Feud.

She is survived by her children, Colleen Kane, Kearneysville and Mannie Mencer II, Berkeley Springs; one sister, Janice Stotler; two brothers, Leonard Gaither, Hagerstown, MD. and John Gaither, Berkeley Springs; five grandchildren, David Kane, Front Royal, Va., Kayla Miller and Richard Kane, both of Kearneysville, Mickey Mencer and Eric Mencer, both of Berkeley Springs; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Mannie Vernon “Pete” Mencer on October 15, 1992; two sisters, Bernice Sirbaugh, Wilma Apple and two brothers, James Gaither and Bernard Gaither.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 6 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Great Cacapon. Pastor Steve Dawson officiated. Burial followed in the adjoining church cemetery.
