Present at the Junior Order Awards Banquet were left to right: Nelson Roach, Morgan Froebe, Penny Bohrer and Anna Peck. Berkeley Springs Council #117, Junior Order United American Mechanics held their annual awards banquet on April 15. Dennis Everett, National Councilor, presented this year’s awards.

Each year they offer a $500 scholarship to a deserving young student. This year they awarded Morgan Froebe who is pursuing her education at Shepherd University. Froebe has been accepted into the nursing program and we wish her every success in her chosen field.

This year Douglas Sensel was recognized for his 25 years of membership and service. Sensel has been a benevolent, unassuming asset to our organization and we were pleased to honor him.

Each year members select a person who helps with Junior Order projects but also volunteer within the community. Two Juniors of the Year selected were Penny Bohrer and Anna Peck. Both are active in the organization projects and at First United Methodist helping with their programs. Bohrer works with the Hospital Auxiliary while Peck can be found at Warm Springs Middle School.

We plan to identify an Elder Statesman-Humantarian honoree each year. This person must meet the criteria for this award. Nelson Roach was honored this year for his tenure and unending service to the organization.

Anyone who has met Roach knows that he is always offering a smile and a helping hand. It might be at his church, in the community, to an individual or to the Junior Order but you can count on him being there.
