A. Hart McKinley, Jr.


A. Hart McKinley, Jr, age 81, of Hancock, Md., died on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Meritus Medical Center, in Hagerstown, Md.

Born Thursday, February 21, 1935, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late A. Hart, Sr. and Margaretta (Whorton) McKinley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Mellott.

He served in the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Division.

He was a past member of the Hancock Lion's Club; the local Republicans Club; the American Legion; and he served on the Board of Directors of the Peoples National Bank.

He was a member of the Hancock United Methodist Church.

He was a general contractor and owner of the Hancock Mobile Homes.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Margret McKinley; three sons, Arthur Hart McKinley III and his wife, Ramona, Thomas McKinley and his wife, Shantay, and William Keith McKinley and his wife, Tammy; a brother, Reginald McKinley and his wife, Joanne; and five grandchildren, Ashley, Courtney, Brandon, Kara and Ally.

The family will receive friends, today, Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at 2 p.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, where a Memorial Service will be held. The doors will be open from 12 noon. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the Hancock Rescue Squad or the Hancock Fire Department.
