Gas company starts sampling under Potomac

Crews from Columbia Gas and Percheron, field services contractors for Columbia Pipeline Group, launch a barge from the public boat dock in Hancock Tuesday morning, January 17. The barge carried equipment to take core samples from beneath the Potomac River as part of the company’s preparations for building a proposed natural gas pipeline from Pennsylvania to the West Virginia shore of the Potomac River. Company officials said core drilling was to be done upriver of the Hancock Bridge. The company is proposing to drill horizontally under the river to run the gas pipeline to West Virginia. photo by Geoff Fox Crews from Columbia Gas and Percheron, field services contractors for Columbia Pipeline Group, launch a barge from the public boat dock in Hancock Tuesday morning, January 17.
