Group collects mittens for local children

Local youth gathered at the Gazebo in the Berkeley Springs State Park with Tonya Stotler and Valerie Andrews, coaches for Berkeley Springs Run for God, who coordinated a Christmas Light 5K run/walk with carolers conducted in seasonal songs by Rich Ellis. Following the caroling they stopped by Berkeley Springs Granary with donations of mittens for the Morgan County Back Packs. Susan Caperton of the Back Pack program had informed the organizers that 330 pair of mittens would be required for each child to have a surprise in their back packs. The program provides supplemental food to children of families over weekends and school breaks. The event, with help from residents, collected 390 pair of mittens. Berkeley Springs Run for God is a community running club of friends who meet to train for runs, conduct Bible studies, and travel to area events.
