Water dept. dedicated

Dear Editor:

On Friday, December 16, we learned the truth of the saying, “You don’t miss something until it’s gone.” Our water is provided by Berkeley Springs Water Works, and at 8:30 a.m. we learned that our water would be shut off so that repairs could be done to the line. Temperatures that day did not rise close to freezing. As they excavated to find the problem, the water department workers realized that the issue was more complex and that they would need to work under U.S. 522. At 5:00 p.m. which for many is “quitting” time, we still had no water, and instead of telling us they would try again on Saturday, they continued to work through the freezing weather and the dark to repair the line. A little after 9 that evening, we again had water. We are very thankful that the Town of Bath and Berkeley Springs Water Works has Terry Largent and his staff as employees. Even though the conditions were adverse, they remained courteous and dedicated to repairing the problem as soon as humanly possible. Their task is not an easy one but an essential one for those of us who use water provided by the town.
