Lloyd V. Pittman

1924-2016

Lloyd Vernon Pittman, 92, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away, Monday, August 8, 2016, at his home with his family by his side.

Born Friday, February 22, 1924 in Everett, Pa., he was the son of the late Espy Irvin Pittman and the late Alma Mary

Clark) Pittman. His wife, Dorothy E. Pittman passed away 11 days prior on July 28, 2016.

He was a former employee of Pennsylvania Glass and Sand Company and Fairchild Aircraft. He worked for C.J. Landenfelder and H.C. Williams Construction Companies, where he helped construct the bridges on Interstate 81 and the Hagerstown Mack Truck plant. He retired in 1988 from Mack Truck. After retiring, he volunteered with Hospice. Lloyd was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific in the U.S. Army Aircorps, 20th Airforce, 73rd Bomb Wing. He flew 28 combat missions off of Saipan and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, D.A.V. Chapter 14, Friendship Lodge 84, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and the Ali Ghan Shrine Club, Cumberland, Md.

He is survived by his daughter, Darlene K. Barr and husband, William of Hagerstown, Md.; six grandchildren, Tammy Sue Kline and husband, Wayne, Pamela JoAnne Kline and husband, Tom, Jennifer Lynn Shives and husband, Brad, Jason Michael Barr and wife, Heather, DeAnn Kay Morrison and husband, Jim, Justin Matthew Barr and wife, Alicia; great-grandchildren Wayne, Olivia and Isabelle Kline, Brooke, Bryant, Braden and Emmalee Shives, Will, Jacob, Kyle, and Samuel Morrison, Nathan and Aaron Kline, Curtis and Chase Barr and Macy and Lexie Barr.

He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Alberta Grace Norris, Alta Coonrod, Martha L. Swisher and Elizabeth Pittman.

Services were held Friday, August 12, 2016, at 1 p.m., at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North Hagerstown, Md., with Bishop R. Brian Stoops officiating.

Family received friends at the funeral home, Thursday, August 11, 2016, from 6-8 p.m.

Interment will be at the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, Md.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the entire staff of Hospice of Washington County, especially, Tonja, Charlee, Rick and Jeff, and to the Washington County Community Action Council during his wife's recent passing.
