Lewis J. Hendershot, Jr.


Lewis Jackson “Jack” Hendershot, Jr, age 73, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Thursday, July 2, 2015 at War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Born November 19, 1941, in Hancock, Md., he was the son of the late Lewis Jackson, Sr. and Hazel Arlene Werdebaugh Hendershot.

He was a member of Mahnes Chapel United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs. Jack served in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War. He worked with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in the early 1980’s. Jack was self-employed for many years as a brick and block mason. He most recently worked for Berkeley Club Beverages as a tractor and trailer driver. Jack enjoyed hunting and especially enjoyed farming.

He is survived by two daughters, Shelia Yvonne Foltz and her husband Jeff of Hedgesville and Laura Ann Glascock and her husband Mark of Berkeley Springs; five sisters, Sophie LaVerne Creek of Hancock, Md., MaryElen Willingham and Valetta Jean Boudreau both of Berkeley Springs, Pearl Rebecca Mahnke of Martinsburg and Rhoda Mae Reed of Big Pool, Md.; two brothers, Norval Edward Hendershot, Sr. and James William Hendershot, Sr. both of Berkeley Springs; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Wilbur Foltz, Jr. of Martinsburg, Troy Austin Foltz of Hedgesville, Dustin Keith Foltz of Falling Waters, Rachel Ann Hendershot of Berkeley Springs and Zack Glascock, Sterling, Va.; three great grandsons; four great granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with the Pastor Kenny Johnson officiating. Interment with graveside military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in Mahnes Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11-1 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
